Please note that weighted blankets are safe to use but can present a significant safety risk if used incorrectly.

There have been incidents involving suffocation due to the blanket being too heavy and/or the person’s head being covered. Do not tuck the blanket into a bed or restrict its movement. They should not cover the whole mattress, they should only cover the person’s body and some of the area around them.

Weighted blankets are generally not recommended for children under 3 years of age. These items should not be used as a therapeutic tool for any children or young people in care without the recommendation of an occupational therapist.
