Performer Notes:

  • C’mon y’all, the acid test for any Ultimate Chick Flick Love Songs collection is the theme from Titanic, ya know, “My Heart Will Go On.” This set gets heavy marks off for that omission. But what is here is great, from Prince’s “Purple Rain” and Bryan Ferry’s “Slave to Love” to Aimee Mann’s “Two of Us,” Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer,” Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes’ “Up Where We Belong,” and even Alison Kraus’ “Baby Now That I’ve Found You.” So while this might not be ultimate, it can be pretty damn fine, and for what it is — a collection of hits designed to be target marketed (it’s on the Warner Strategic Marketing label) — it works and it works well. Perhaps folks interested in this sort of thing should be grateful that it’s generally available and not the exclusive prize of some coffee shop chain. ~ Thom Jurek
