Day 3: Amman – Jerash – Dead Sea – Amman (B)

After breakfast, drive north for a full day exploring Jerash, one of the largest and best preserved Roman sites outside of Italy. This afternoon, continue to the shores of the Dead Sea. You will have free time here to float in its unique salty waters, or smother yourself in therapeutic mineral-rich black mud, before returning to Amman for the night.

Day 4: Amman – Madaba – Mt. Nebo – Petra (B)

Depart Amman along the scenic King’s Highway bound for Petra, crossing deep Wadis, olive groves, and driving through remote rural villages along the way. En-route, stop at the ancient town of Madaba to visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. Madaba, The City of Mosaics, is known for its Byzantine-era mosaics. The mosaic map on the floor at St. George is the most famous of these mosaics. Journey 817 metres above sea level to Mt. Nebo overlooking the Jordan Valley, where Moses is believed to have had his first glimpse of the Promised Land. Then visit Kerak Castle, one in a chain of Crusader fortresses built across Jordan in the 12th Century, before arriving into Petra this evening.

Day 5: Petra Sightseeing (B)

Make sure your camera or phone is fully charged for this breathtaking day of exploring Petra, commonly regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Spend all day touring this ancient Nabataean city and all of its grandeur, including its narrow canyon passageway, the Treasury, Royal Tombs, the Theater and more landmarks in what is known as the “Rose City.”

Optional Activity:

  • Petra by Night – Eenjoy the natural, flickering lights of the evening hours combined with a little storytelling by local guides and Bedouin music on this 2 hour tour of Petra by night ($79 per person).

Day 6: Little Petra – Wadi Rum – Amman (B)

Your day begins with a visit to ‘Little Petra’, a suburb of the main city which provides a great insight into the larger buildings and tombs. Then, on to the breathtaking Wadi Rum, where you will experience Bedouin hospitality with a jeep safari through the rugged desert landscape with its towering cliffs, surreal rock formations and sandy dunes. At the end of the day drive back to Amman for the evening.

Day 7: Amman – Cairo (B)

Today, you have the morning to explore the city at your leisure, before your transfer you to Amman airport for your flight to Cairo. Upon arrival in Cairo, you will be met by your local guide, and transferred to your hotel to check in for the evening.

Optional Activity:

  • Amman City Tour – this half day guided city tour showcases the ancient centre of Amman, including the citadel, Roman amphitheatre, and downtown area ($99 per person).

Day 8: Cairo Sightseeing (B, L)

After breakfast, your private Egyptologist tour guide will pick you up to begin your day of sightseeing. First, head to Giza and visit the Pyramids. See the Great Pyramid, a royal burial chamber and the Sphinx, enjoying lunch en route. Visit the Egyptian Museum, which houses a magnificent collection of Pharaonic antiquities, including the golden treasures of Tut Ankh Amun.

Day 9: Cairo – Luxor – Karnak (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Cairo airport for your flight to Luxor. Upon arrival, you will embark on your Nile Cruise. Once you have checked in to your cabin, set out to visit the great Luxor Temple and the magnificent Karnak Temple of Amun with its famous Hypostyle Hall with 134 huge columns, the Statue of Ramses II, the Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut and the Sacred Lake.

Day 10: Luxor West Bank (B, L, D)

Spend the morning sightseeing in Luxor, including the West Bank (Thebes) where some of the richest treasures in the world exist, including the Tomb of Tut Ankh Amun (optional) and other royal tombs such as Ramses VI in the Valley of the Kings. Tour the Hatshepsut Funerary Temple at Deir El Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon. Return to your cruise for lunch, and in the afternoon sail through the locks of Esna to Edfu.

Tour the Edfu temple, considered one of the best preserved and most beautiful in Egypt, dedicated to the falcon headed god Horus. Sail to Kom Ombo, where you will visit the Sobek Temple and admire its beautiful murals and reliefs. Kom Ombo, the ancient temple of Horus and Sobek is known as a healing place of pilgrimage for ancient Egyptians, and is also famous for its mummified crocodiles.

Day 12: High Dam – Philae Temple (B, L, D)

Relish in the history of Aswan’s High Dam and marvel at this engineering miracle built in the 1960s, which looks out over Lake Nasser to the Kalabsha temple. Make your way to the Philae Temple, Aswan’s most famous site, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Philae Temple was moved after rivers rose too close to the Temple after the High Dam was built.
